PROJECT DESCRIPTION

First and foremost, thank you to Quiksilver for bringing me onto this project. It was an unreal opportunity to create some of the most prolific work to date. Big thanks to Drake Cook for making all of this happen.

I had the privilege of helping Drake secure a job as we graduated from college, and recently, he returned the favor by enabling me to join this dream job — motion design for a core surf company. Life has an interesting way of coming full circle.

Earlier this year, I faced a creative crisis, feeling adrift in my design pursuits. I took a break, stepping away from work for two months, lacking inspiration. It marked a career low. However, this job unexpectedly came my way. The allure of something greater was undeniable. I felt no control over the situation but sensed I was destined to be part of it.

Every exploration, simulation, test, etc., seamlessly clicked into place. This job was a rare instance where everything fell into a harmonious flow, without resistance. It was surreal. Tears of joy welled up, as if I was destined for this role. Chicken skin and tingles accompanied every new animation sequence.

Reflecting on it now, perfection eludes us, and there are aspects I'd tweak. Nevertheless, this job served as a lifeline, pulling me out of a substantial creative rut, and possibly an even more extensive personal one.

So, thank you.

Nature knows best.

Love, Trevor

3D Assets

Created in Cinema 4d and photoshop

.

3D Hero apparel Assets

Created and animated in Marvelous designer,
then textured in Cinema 4d.

3D Animation Development

.

Collect Scene

8 Layers of XP CLoth to create multiple areas of coverage over the letterforms and variation of movement.

.

River Scene

5 layers of X-particles and emitters to create dynamic moments in the river. Using a generator effector to replace particles with rolling OBJ sequences of tumbling cloth.

3 layers of x-particles to separate at the end of the river.

A baked alembic formed from an xp cloth modifier file to create the piles of clothes being separated.

.

sHRED Scene

1 Layer of XP CLoth WITH A TEAR EFFECTOR. Strange attractors and turbulence was used for movement.

4 EMITTERS WITH XP FLOCK were added to the scene TO CREATE A CHAOTIC movement to overwhelm the scene
for a transition.

.

pELLET Scene

mULTIPLE BAKED ALEMBIC FILES PLAYED IN REVERSE TO REFORM SHREDDED MATERIAL INTO PELLET SHAPES.

.

Extrude Scene

Hero Pellet is unwoven into a strand of yarn.

X-Partciles trails with random noise pattern joins to create more thread.

.

Weave Scene

Weaves were made of sweeps follwing splines in the shape of an Ottoman pattern.
Xp cloth was made for the transition to made scene.

.

maDE Scene

All panels of the hero trunk were input to an xp cloth and effected with rotation, attractor, speed, and multiple turbulence modifiers.

Panels were baked as alembics and played in forward and reverse to land on the hero boardshort.

.

Kimono Scene

Using assets from the made scene. all panels from the hero boardshort were animated with xp cloth separately, then moved outwards to reveal the kimono within.
